Packaging Solutions
The Process
The prototyping process starts with a collaborative design session, where we take the time to understand the exact requirements for your packaging.
Phase 1: Design
To begin the packaging process, please send us either a sample of the product or a CAD file with its specifications. If your product already has a packaging solution, please ship it to us in its existing packaging.
Design and prototyping includes:
- "3D model of the packaging sample or samples"
- "Two custom-grown samples for testing"
- "Expedited shipping to one address"
- "Up to two rounds of prototype iterations"
- "Flat fee of 600 Euros"
After the collaborative design session, we will send you a detailed dimension drawing proposal for your approval or feedback, along with a preliminary cost estimate. Once we complete the prototyping process, we will provide you with a final proposal that includes the per-part price.
Phase 2: Prototyping
After the dimension drawing proposal is confirmed, we create custom molds to grow your unique packaging solution.
Design and prototyping includes:
- "The molds are filled with the MycoComposite™ mix, which takes up to 4 days to grow into its final form."
- "After growth, the pieces are removed from the mold and allowed to develop their velvet-smooth, natural texture for an additional 2 days."
- "Kiln drying removes moisture and stabilizes the mycelium, resulting in a dry and durable packaging solution."
- "The final sample products are tested for fit and shipped to you for approval. One additional iteration is included for final adjustments to dimensions or aesthetics, if needed. Additional iterations, prototype samples, or shipping addresses may require additional fees."
Phase 3: Production and QA
After you approve the samples, we use the same 3D file that was used for prototyping to create durable hard tools. The price of Mushroom® Packaging depends on factors such as design, dimensions, quantity, and delivery time. However, we strive to work with you to find the most cost-effective solution possible.
Design and prototyping includes:
- "Our hard tool can produce multiple growing molds that are used repeatedly in production."
- "We test our packaging to withstand the rigors of transportation and different temperatures, making it as strong as polystyrene and other foams."
- "We offer the option of scheduling a pickup or delivery (at an additional cost) for your parts."
- "Please contact us to discuss prototyping and production timeframes."
We'll send you a detailed dimension drawing proposal for your approval, along with a rough estimate of the cost, before presenting a final proposal that includes the per-part price (determined after prototyping). This way, you can review and provide feedback on the proposal before committing to the final cost.
